UKFast unviels £14m Manchester data center

Cloud and colocation specialist UKFast unveiled “the city’s most powerful data center complex” in Trafford Park, amplifying the region”s connectivity and bringing more choice to Manchester’s data center market. UKFast’s £14m site is marked “DCPlex” and made up of 3 new facilities, MaNOC 5, 6 and 7, and the firm’s first wholly-owned data centre MaNOC4 (Manchester Network Operation Centres) which was launched last year.

UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones said: “Two years ago I was fed up with the lack of choice in the North West – the few data center providers at the time were changing hands regularly and fell well short of the standards we required so the only credible option was to invest in our own.

“Within 12 months of launching our first data center, we had filled it to capacity as demand in the region was so high, so we set out to build a data center complex. The new data centers dwarf other Manchester operators with more power per square foot than any other data center provider we have found outside of London.”

Bringing the national and  international Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers and service providers into Manchester, the new data centers significantly expand and strengthen the city’s position in the digital economy.

Jones continued: “The DCPlex brings huge benefits for the local business community. It’s our job to give everyone access to leading-edge services from major international carriers ensuring we make our clients more competitive in international markets.

“Manchester has great potential to be the new digital hub of

the UK but we need more data centre space and better connectivity. It’s too easy to blame broadband for poor download speeds. The real answer is to speed up every aspect of your hosting serviceto guarantee great results.

“The businesses who understand this are the ones making a killing online. Whilst many businesses attempt to save money compromising their speed, there are a few people who are gaining the lion’s share.”

UKFast last week won a DataCenterDynamics EMEA award for the Special Assignment Team of the Year in recognition of its migration from external facilities to the firm’s first purpose-built, fully-owned and managed data center.
