Windstream Hosted Solutions to Construct Massive Data Center in Durham

Web hosting provider Windstream Hosted Solutions declared publicly on Tuesday that it plans to build a new enterprise-class data center in Durham, North Carolina. This will be the third data center Windstream Hosted Solutions operates in the Raleigh-Durham area as Windstream continues to expand its rapidly growing customer demand for cloud services, managed services and storage in the Triangle market.

Windstream Hosted Solutions has planned on constructing several data centers this year alone, following the opening of new Windstream Hosted Solutions data centers in McLean, Virginia and Little Rock, Arkansas.

The advanced Tier III 22,000-square-foot data center is further expandable to 88,000 square feet.

Scheduled to operate in 2013, the data center is being constructed to withstand the growing demand for data center services from Windstream’s customers.

The data center, in the beginning will include 10,000 square feet of raised floor data center space and later, with the ability to increase up to 40,000 square feet over time.

The advanced Windstream Durham data center will be fitted with a Tier III modular design for easier capacity expansion, 2500kVa of utility capacity that can be upgraded to five times that amount, 360 tons of cooling capacity to conrol inside temperatures of 74 degrees Fahrenheit, and redundant OC-192 10Gbps circuits which connect each center to multiple core POP sites with fully redundant peering.

On top of it, the data center is supported by Windstream’s onsite network operations center with a 24-hour staff that provides facilities and network monitoring, security, technical and remote-hands support.
