Facebook’s Forest City Data Center Looking to Expand

A Facebook data center in Forest City is looking to expand its facilities in Rutherford County. Forest City Town Manager John Condrey tells the Asheville Citizen-Times that the Menlo Park, California-based company is building an additional 400,000 square-foot facility. Facebook data center site manager Keven McCammon says it’s scheduled to be completed in 2017.

The center already employs 125 people. McCammon says the company has sought local residents to work there. Positions include operations managers, project managers, technicians and engineers. Rutherford County’s September unemployment rate was 7.3 percent, an improvement from 19.4 percent in January 2010.
