LightEdge’s Altoon Data Center gets Bigger

LightEdge Solutions has completed a 5,000-square-foot expansion of its Altoona data center. The data center company said Tuesday it finished the expansion, which began in March. The Altoona center is now 20,000 square feet.Based in Des Moines, LightEdge provides colocation data storage services, meaning other companies can use LightEdge‘s data centers to store information instead of hosting their own servers.

The company has 150 employees, 118 of which are located in its downtown Des Moines office. LightEdge pointed out in a statement that it was the first to open a data center in Altoona in 2007. That predates Facebook’s massive data center buildings, the first of which opened last year. Facebook is constructing a second building and has broken ground on a third.

LightEdge said it has plans for a second data center in Altoona. The company also has a subterranean data center in Kansas City, Mo.
