New Data Center in Lafayette?

A Lafayette business is building on what will be the city’s largest privately owned data center.

Tuesday morning, Wintek broke ground for their new 10,000-square-foot data center. The center costs nearly $3 million to build and is located on David Howarth Drive near Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Chief Operating Officer Oliver Beers said the new building will more than double the current amount of servers. If business goes as expected, Beers said they have room to expand the building in the future.

“We’re glad to be out here among a lot of our customers, out here on the south side of Lafayette,” Beers said. “So it’s been a great experience and great adventure. We’re just getting started.”

Chief Operating Officer Travis Bailey agrees the new building will bring much needed space.

“For us, it’s exciting. We have about 20 existing racks in our existing facility. We’re just out of room. We don’ have any place else to help support customers in the community,” Bailey explained.

The center is expected to be ready by the summer of 2016.
