Equinix to open data center in Dubai
Equinix is an American corporation which provides Internet exchange and carrier neutral data center services located in Redwood city, California. Equinix currently operates 98 data centers across 12 countries in South America, Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. Equinix, Inc. operates International Business Exchange and its mission is to protect power and connect the digital economy.
Equinix is planning to expand their International Business Exchange in Middle East. Equinix partners with United Arab Emirates based telecom service providers “du” to build a data center in Dubai. This new inclusion Equinix will offer seamless colocation and inter-connection services to content providers, financial service providers, enterprises and cloud service providers. Dubai data center will host650 cabinets within 44, 000 sq ft of area and will cost around $40.0 Million. First phase of Data center will begin its operation by January 2013. In recent third quarter (Europe, Middle East and Africa) EMEA regions generated 23% of Equinix total revenue. In a recent study conducted by Cisco Systems Inc. it revealed annual growth rate or EMEA could go up to 79% within 2016, this results can drive Equinix business to grow in EMEA region.
Equinix’s President for EMEA Eric Schwartz said, “The Middle East continues to strengthen its position as an important business hub and we are seeing increased demand from our customers for data center services across the region. We see Dubai and the UAE as a key business gateway and are excited to open a new data center in the area to help facilitate growth.”
