Enseva launched its first data center in Hiawatha on October 1, 2012, first phase of Altoona plant will be a replica of Hiawatha plant. Enseva plans for multiple 17, 000 sq ft data center buildings. Altoona plant is capable of accommodating 96, 000 sq ft of data center space; plant is likely to create 30-40 jobs.

Chad Quick Altoona city planner said, “It’s a great deal for the city, absolutely. We need to move toward the realm of being more of an employer city … anything that adds to the tax base and with jobs provided, especially in the tech industry, is a good thing.”

President of Enseva Doug Sevey said, “We were there first before the big guys decided they were going to go in across the street, we had already figured out the location and opportunities in that area. Those opportunities have already drawn one multimillion-dollar data center, Light-Edge, to Altoona. The priority for data centers is easy access to excessive electrical power, fiber-optic cables, and open and affordable land. Altoona offers all these with access to the intersection of Interstate Highways 80 and 35.”
