Default Solar power for data centers

There is a lot to like about it, but James Hamilton (Amazon Web Services) analyzes some numbers from two recent high profile projects and concludes that present technology solar power doesn't seem to make economic or ecological sense for data centers: http://perspectives.mvdirona.com/201...rPowerBut.aspx

ah, i always wondered what the catch was. it really does not make sense to so much money for such small percentages of the total power.

great link. thank you for sharing.

btw, do the companies still rely on utility power despite spending so much on solar arrays?
