Default US Government Agencies to consolidate Data centers

The United States is working to mandate that all government agencies consolidate the number of data centers that they use. I am curious as to whether or not other countries are doing this as well.

I have not heard of other governments doing this. But that does not mean that there are not some. I think it is a good idea if they stick with it and are able to be successful.

The operating cost for a data center is heavily dependent on economies of scale, so consolidating data centers across government use probably means significant savings. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Yes this certainly does sound like a good idea. The main issue is whether or not they have the knowledge and means needed to be able to create and carry out a good consolidation plan.

Thank-you for the link to the article. That was quite informative. And yes it would be nice if the government would pass on some of the savings to the taxpayers once they are able to start having some big savings.
