Apart from laying off 5,000 more employees, in an effort to cut costs, the Des Moines, Iowa data-center, reportedly costing over half a billion dollars, has been put on hold indefinitely. Microsoft had been building data centers in Texas and Illinois, and had placed one recently in Dublin, Ireland. The move is only temporary but God knows when this economy will right itself for them to move forward again.
Thats really very bad, this is one of the impacts of current recession in US market. We cannot expect them to move forward until the condition of market gets better.
It is not only a US recession but it is all over the world. I have several friends who have owned IT companies here in Thailand and who have had to file for bankruptcy over the last few months.
Interesting, it seems massive web service providers (yahoo, google, microsoft, etc) may think its beneficial to have multiple DC located throughout the US (and other countries). As more video, itv, and remote software apps. become the norm, having data centers strategically placed maybe the way to go. Does any think otherwise??
obviously as the number of user goes in billions to trillions u need to have more DCs to service them!
