Senior Datacenter Technician
The Data Centre team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We're diverse, upbeat, creative, team-oriented engineers and managers working on a daily basis to develop data centres that are changing the face of contemporary computing facilities.
At Google we have a permanent job opportunity for a Senior Technician. This position would suit
an experienced IT professional with advanced hands-on technical skills in Networks, Hardware
and Linux (ideally in a Datacenter environment). Additionally, experience in mentoring a
technical team and supporting knowledge transfer is required.
Responsibilities:
1. Install new servers as our Linux cluster grows and design of rack layout and power allocation.
2. Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
3. Install and maintain switches, routers, and other networking gear.
4. Fix broken servers (replace hard drives, replace bad sticks of RAM, etc.).
5. Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS related issues on our servers.
Requirements:
1. Third level (three - four year Degree / Diplom) qualification in IT related course.
2. Solid commercial experience working with Linux (Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo) or Unix (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, BSD).
3. Solid Python, SQL and/or shell scripting knowledge.
4. Significant experience working with PC and server hardware, rack and stack installations and hands-on experience with fiber optical networks (including cable dressing and management).
5. Experience supervising, training, mentoring other technicians.
6. Able to lift/move 20-30 lbs equipment on a daily basis.
7. High level of written and oral fluency in German/Dutch/Hungarian and English.
Data Center Technician
Join our fast growing team of highly motivated staff working in a challenging and interesting data center environment in developing, building and supporting the physical infrastructure behind Google's search technology.
The position is an excellent opportunity for experienced IT professionals with interests in hands-on technical work to develop skills and experience in highly advanced datacenter environments. Long-term career paths could follow Linux
Systems Administration, Network Engineering, Project and Team Management.
The position of Data Center Technician is initially a temporary contract with potential to convert to a Permanent role after approximately eight-ten months (depending on performance review).
