the company I work for has all there servers in one datacenter currently.
I need to provide failover to another datacenter. How do you guys do this?
How do the big boys do it?(amazon,ebay,etc)
We have another datacenter signed and servers placed in the cabinets just don't know how to send the traffic to them.
One of the better and more affordable ways to do what you are looking for is through Global DNS.
You can do this yourself with either Cisco or Brocace (or other) equipment but it is generally easy and not very expensive to hire a DNS service to do this for you.
You can have them make your sites Active/Active, Active/Passive, Balanced, or Best path.
I have used Netriplex in the past and have been pleased with their solution
Getting IP's from one center to another is easy, managed systems liks SANS and base configurations are hard. Look at SAN-SAN replication products or products such as www.inmage.net to replicate traffic via CDP between technologies allowing you to have differnt hardware at either site.
P.S The Big BOYS are stateless with one site surviving without the other just fine....
To send traffic I also suggest to have IP’s from one particular center which also helps to managed systems. The facility is that it provides distributed balance in equal manner.
