Default Global Crossing iMPLS™ Service Offers Providers Worldwide IP VPN Service Reach

Global Crossing iMPLS™ Service Offers Providers Worldwide IP VPN Service Reach
  • Allows service providers to efficiently and rapidly extend their IP VPN service reach to more than 500 cities in more than 50 countries.
  • Enables commercial businesses to extend their own MPLS networks globally with end-to-end QoS supporting fully converged voice, video and data applications.
  • iMPLS? is a key capability within Global Crossing's Fast-Track™ portfolio.

Florham Park, NJ - October 19, 2004 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC) today announced the global availability of Interprovider MPLS (iMPLS™), an enhanced provider interconnect service that allows MPLS-based service providers to seamlessly extend IP Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) service reach beyond their region.

Based on leading industry standards and technology, iMPLS dramatically enhances a provider's time-to-market capability for serving out-of-region customers while minimizing the capital expense needed to build out an extended network and service infrastructure. iMPLS also grants service providers immediate access to Global Crossing's converged IP applications.

"This is a win-win for service providers and commercial businesses," said John Legere, Global Crossing's chief executive officer. "Both can now deliver seamless, robust service continuity for mission-critical IP applications beyond their original footprint, offering security and the ability to truly converge communications."

With Global Crossing's iMPLS, service providers can efficiently provision, manage and maintain an MPLS interconnect service for delivering reliable and robust end-to-end VPN services. Global Crossing iMPLS provides seamless, scalable MPLS-based IP VPN service expansion, providing rapid time-to-market capabilities with minimal capital investment.

Commercial businesses with MPLS-based IP VPNs can now extend their reach globally to securely connect satellite offices, remote locations and business partners with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for mission-critical IP applications. Additionally, iMPLS further expands Global Crossing's worldwide reach by enabling it to seamlessly extend IP VPN service offer into new regions and cities served by its partners' IP VPN service.

Global Crossing's MPLS-based IP VPN service is delivered over the company's Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) fiber optic network, which consistently operates at 99.999 percent availability, the highest industry standard. The IP VPN service provides multiple Classes of Service (CoS) with differentiated QoS, enabling enterprise customers to simultaneously run multiple applications, including voice, video and data with guaranteed performance.

"Global businesses require seamless service continuity," added Anthony Christie, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer. "Until now, local and regional MPLS carriers have had to employ expensive access solutions to extend full service reach outside their footprint. Global Crossing's iMPLS service enables our partners to access a true carrier-class MPLS network and service, and to deliver advanced IP VPN solutions to endpoints around the world."

iMPLS is a key capability within Global Crossing's Fast-Track™ portfolio of business solutions for service providers, which the company also announced today.
