The virtualization technology is rapidly growing. Virtualization technology has helped in reducing the costs of many services. Storage virtualization is also being developed following the growth of server virtualization.

With server virtualization the requirement of physical servers has been reduced to a 1:80 ratio.

For a storage system, there are two primary types of virtualization that can occur:
Block Virtualization
File Virtualization

Block virtualization refers to the abstraction of logical storage from physical storage. It may be accessed without regard to physical storage or heterogeneous structure.

File Virtualization - File-level virtualization addresses the NAS challenges. It eliminates the dependencies between the data accessed at the file level and the location where the files are physically stored.
