The major drivers behind higher-performance storage networks:

Weve come full circle from a mainframe centric computing model with dumb terminals in the 70s, to a client server model with low cost servers and powerful desktops/laptops in the 90s, back towards a centralized model with cloud computing at the centre and thin clients such as Citrix, netbooks and Smartphones at the perimeter. Therefore, storage is back to a centralized model yet again with nothing more than a browser interface needed at the user level.
