Here are the main criteria that you need to remember while building a data center budget.
1. Availability requirement
2. Cooling and power density
3. Business objective
4. Technology services
5. Support services.
Make sure you have all the basic knowledge about these criteria. Take your time to determine your budget. Good luck.

Today data centers are shrinking in size because of modern technology. What once was a large data center has been reduced to about half. Many companies now are using the cloud and off site data centers for their needs. If you want to build a data center you'll need to decided on your space, requirements, back-up and disaster recovery. Furthermore, you'll need to decide on who will be responsible for maintaining all your equipment. Do you want to lease or own is yet another question you must answer.

You'll need to consider the following

Rent for space
Equipment maintenance
Repairs
Staffing
Server software upgrades
Cooling
Power
Cabling
Floor design

This is only a few things that you should consider when making your budget.

This is one of the hardest areas to budget for. You have to make sure you have enough money for the unexpected problems that arise in a data center. Plus there are many factors to take into consideration.

There are two major categories for budgeting data centers and several sub-categories under each. Let’s look at the two major ones – facilities and IT. By and large they are interdependent, and it is risky to plan for one without understanding the other. Assuming that the underlying need for a new data center is already established, the budgeting process should begin with IT.

IT Planning
The IT planning process will articulate the IT objectives of the data center and relate it back to the core business strategy it is intended to support. The IT planning process looks a lot like a combination of field surveys, staff interviews and interactive workshops, all designed to get everyone on the same page with existing conditions, areas of improvement, financial targets and growth projections. Combined with a little crystal ball gazing into the near future, the IT plan will result in a budget.
