Default Virtualization VS physical server

Our company is moving from pysical server to virtualization servers. We found that there are memory problem when we launch java application. Do you think moving to virtualization is good? We use solaris and redhat.

Use Xen based virtualization since it would give you dedicated RAM resources to your VPS. Also, make sure that you have enough RAM to run the Java based programs as they consume much memory resources.

I'm not sure if Xen would work, but the fact it allocates swap could be a helpful feature for what you are doing.

We host many Java apps on our VMware ESX setup. We have a 2x dual core Xeon, 12GB RAM, and a RAID-5 setup. Works awesome for all our internal apps.

Java is best in dedicated server. It requires a lot of resources.

Yes Java application is really good and also requires more memory due to its JVM. So usage of virtualization for that is good approach.

Yeah, that is good when you have lot of RAMs, an RAID 5 setup is another good thing. It really needs lot of resources.

As I'm sure you know Java applications have more memory overhead due to them being ran in the Java virtual machine themselves.

We run our java applications on REDHAT boxes and all of them are running from VMware ESX server, we don't have memory issue. Also, you can easily upgrade it, if you want more RAM.
