Default data centers rating

Hello

I received from one customer the question (or maybe speculation :-)) that data center must be rated according to the some standards. I know there are many standards ralated to DCs, but never heard about any ratings. Has anybody info about that?
thank you

This may be what your customer means. The Uptime Institute has a tier classification for data centers, which indicates the levels of infrastructure redundancy (and therefore theoretical reliability) of a given site. The four tiers -- I being the least reliable and IV the most -- are well defined in this white paper. Also, TIA/EIA Standard 942 contains much of the same information.

Another tier rating system is used for communications carriers. It wouldn't surprise me if some data center operators "rated" their own facilities according to their connectivity with these carriers.

See this thread for information http://www.datacentertalk.com/showth...newpost&t=7407.
