Default Green Data Centers

I've only been on the forum for a bit now but I've seen quite a lot of threads concerning a green data center and how you can make yours green. Below I list a few things that you can do to be more green and do your part in conserving the environment.
  • Purchase Carbon Credits to make up for your CO2 emissions
  • Cut down on power usage
  • Recycle all waste - including paper in the administration office
  • Have an eco-friendly fire protection system (No CFC's)
  • Sponsor/donate to a local environmental campaign
  • Install solar panels or make use of any other sources of renewable energy

These are only a few of the possible ways that you can become more green and in turn you will start saving money.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
ford

Those are great tips, thanks for sharing. I agree with you especially about installing solar panels (and maybe wind turbines) to tap the freely available energy.

Solar panels are a great way. Wind turbines are REALLY expensive so I don't think that will work for smaller data centers. Thanks for the great share!

Sorry I am pretty new to renewable energy installation and usage, and the cost. Do you want to say that solar panels are cheaper than (small scale) wind turbines?

@vptech

while you are looking at alternative sources of energy to meet your electricity requirements, you not only look at the initial cost, you also take into consideration the conversion efficiency(converting one form of energy into usable electricity), the area consumption etc.
solar cells,hands down, have a better conversion efficiency when compared to wind mills and one can just install the solar cells on the roof.you don't need to buy extra land like you need for wind turbines. also,the energy produced by one wind turbine is very less, therefore you need MANY turbines to produce a decent amount of power. admitted that the same holds true for solar panels as well,but what wud you rather install,an extra solar panel or a whole turbine?

plus,wind turbines are noisy..
