Desktop hardware will do the job, you normally get better performance and life out of the server hardware but the main thing is space and power savings from the none desktop hardware!

Server processors have higher quality dies than desktop processors. Servers can also be employed as a storage backup utility for personal use. Saving files to a desktop rather than a server typically allows files to open and operate faster than when directly accessing files from a server.

Smile Server Vs Desktop

Hello,

At the moment for desktop are a lot of parts like as for servers. I mean mainboards, ram, HDD. Platforms and tower are cheap, but works like servers.

In many aspects server is used instead of computer, most important of those aspects is the power and capacity of the server is very huge as compare to the computer.

Really it depends on your usage. If you are talking in terms of storage and business or if your talking more along the lines of a home office or office server. They both would serve their purposes in any environment.

As far as reliability. Longevity of hardware depends nothing on its model or make when talking about quality options from both. Its more along the line of user error, load, maintenance, care and of course manufacturing. You will have your fan boys for both, but ultimately you must decide which is more cost effective for you. HDDs will have the same burn out rates or chance of failure in both. With proper cooling and not overloading the systems. Both should last a long time. Just depends on your budget. its like picking a new car. Do you get a lambo and go all out or do you be more economic and buy a scion. Just preference and budget.
