Default Assistant Manager, Data Centers (Toronto)

Accountable to the Manager Infrastructure Operations, the Assistant Manager Data Centers will lead a team that designs, plans, implements and maintains network and computer systems in multiple (200+) data and communications centers located at campus and off-campus sites, including DRP sites. The Assistant Manager provides input to the Manager on the strategic direction of the data centers for the University including architecture of new cabling systems, central versus distributed computing schemas, uninterruptible power sources, electrical and mechanical design. The Assistant Manager evaluates system tools, upgrades, and hardware to support the expanding computing needs of the University and implements and maintains security procedures and policies for the system environment.

<font size="3">Education:

<font size="2"> A relevant University degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent experience (preferably in a university or large service oriented environment).
<font size="3">
<font size="3">Other Skills/Experience:

<font size="2"> 4-6 years experience in computer room/data centre environments. Extensive experience working with operating system platforms. Networking skills, electrical/mechanical and cabling systems/terminations knowledge in a computing centre environment preferred.
Hands-on experience with major network services and protocols, e.g., DNS, DHCP, SSH, NTP, NFS, HTTP, RCS; network security & monitoring tools, e.g., Nagios, TCP/IP networking tools. Solid troubleshooting skills with hardware and software. Comprehensive knowledge of common server platforms, e.g., UNIX, Windows and MAC. Knowledge of system security utilities, e.g., firewalls, password assessment utilities. Knowledge and experience with standard project methodologies, tools and techniques. Experience in supervising technical staff and projects including the prioritization and delegation of tasks. Strong administrative and organizational skills with the ability to work productively in a team environment. Strong communications and presentation skills – must be able to communicate, present and interact professionally with diverse groups across the organization. Strong analytical and problem solving ability. Proven ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work under and deliver to continual deadline constraints while balancing competing priorities. Strong ability, commitment and initiative to learn and remain current with new and emerging technologies and trends.
