Default BroadVoice Selects Global Crossing to Power Its Next-Generation Voice Over IP Service

  • Advanced VoIP Services enable BroadVoice to better serve its customers with high quality, Internet phone service.

Florham Park, NJ - October 19, 2004 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC) announced today that BroadVoice, a leading provider of Internet-based telephony for businesses and residential customers, is leveraging Global Crossing's VoIP Outbound Service™ and Global Crossing VoIP DID Service™ to provide its customers with IP-based local and long-distance voice communications.

"Global Crossing's innovative VoIP services allow us to deliver crystal-clear, flat-rate telephone service to our residential and business customers," said David Epstein, BroadVoice's co-founder and president. "Their innovative solutions assist us in providing our customers the top-level quality and service we are so passionate about."

BroadVoice selected Global Crossing for IP leadership, global reach and network quality. The company has been using Global Crossing's Outbound Service since March 2004 and is currently deploying Global Crossing's Direct Inward Dial (DID) service. BroadVoice offers customers unlimited local and long-distance calls over their home broadband connection at very affordable monthly flat-fee plans. Global Crossing's worldwide reach helps enable BroadVoice's Unlimited World and Unlimited World Plus calling plans, which the company announced today.

Global Crossing has embraced a convergence strategy and is committed to delivering efficient, scalable IP services to its customers while supporting their transition to a converged environment. Global Crossing's next-generation network, connecting more than 500 cities in more than 50 countries on 6 continents and operating at 99.999 percent availability, enables customers to fully experience the benefits of IP.

"We're delighted to partner with a forward-thinking provider like BroadVoice," said Ted Higase, Global Crossing's executive vice president, worldwide carrier services. "Our flexible, global offering will continue to support them as they bring new IP-enabled services to their subscribers."

Global Crossing currently runs up to 2.5 billion minutes per month over its private global VoIP backbone, or more than 40 percent of its total voice traffic. In June of this year, the company announced that it had decommissioned a legacy switch in its network core, part of its plan to run all of its voice applications over its fully interoperable VoIP backbone.

Global Crossing VoIP Outbound provides wholesale IP interconnection, transport and call completion of packet-based voice traffic over Global Crossing's integrated TDM and VoIP network platforms. VoIP Outbound is part of a robust offer portfolio that Global Crossing has developed for service providers, which includes IP Transit, network transport and voice services. Coupled with Global Crossing's commitment to service excellence and network performance, this offer is designed to help service providers differentiate themselves in a competitive marketplace and generate new revenue streams.

Global Crossing VoIP DID service is a new direct inward dial service that provides carriers with local origination for nationwide local numbers through a single IP interconnection point, delivering a cost-effective alternative to traditional toll-free applications

BroadVoice also benefits from Global Crossing's uCommand® Customer Service Portal, a unique offering that delivers 24x7 self- service autonomy to customers. This secure, private Web-based network management tool allows customers to order data services, monitor its network, create utilization reports, establish end-user and product accounts, and view monthly billing reports.
