Question Secondary DNS Server

Hi all,

How can I make a LINUX box as a secondary DNS server. The Linux box is also
working as a primary mail server. I am using Linux 7.x version (not GUI).

What is the purpose of using secondary DNS servers?, Is it for load balancing or do you like this server to work as backup when Main DNS is down?.

I am not sure about this how can be done. How many DNS servers you need to assign in domain registars?.

simply append to /etc/named.conf file

zone "zonename.com" IN {
type slave;
masters {x.x.x.x};
file "zonename.com";
allow-update { none; };
};
* where zonename.com is your zone's name
* where x.x.x.x is the IP address of master dns server
* in "file" line choose the filename that you wish.It will be created under /var/named directory.
save the /etc/named.conf file and then restart the named service.If everything is set correctly on Master dns server - after restart the file will be created automatically for your zone under /var/named

From my understanding, You should have assigned both server's nameserver on domain registar rgiht?. Also you should have mirror site?. Am I right?.

When it get the nameservers from domain registar, it will get the IP of the nameserver and will be directed to the server. If the server is down then all dead.

Am I confusing?. Can you give better explanation of it.
