Default Noise levels in large data centers

As data centers become denser and denser allowing for more equipment to be packed in the room, I've heard that people are starting to look into noise levels in the data centers.

Lately I've noticed that some sounds are harder to hear and I'm often asking my wife to repeat what she's said. I don't want to believe I'm tuning her out! Some days I spend all my time in the data center, sometimes none...but I've been in there for a few years.

I've tried googling around on the subject, but really haven't found much. Has anyone read up on the subject or know of articles?

Here's a thread that might interest you: http://www.datacentertalk.com/tools-...ear-plugs.html. Also, quite a bit of info showed up when I Googled for data center noise.

Question

Is it possible to introduce some mechanism to convert the noise/sound energy into a more useful form of energy?
