What is IPMI?
Razor Servers IPMI module monitors onboard instrumentation such as temperature sensors, power status, voltages and fan speed, and provides remote power control capabilities to reboot and/or reset the server. It also includes remote access to the BIOS configuration and operating system console information embedded KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) capabilities. Because the controller is a separate processor, the monitoring and control functions work regardless of CPU operation or system power-on status.
IPMI also includes Virtual Media Over LAN (Virtual USB Floppy/CD and Drive Redirection). Thus allowing the server administrator to upload files to the server from their office or home computers directly from CDs or DVDs. The server administrator can also format and reload their own server via any ISO file, at any time, without the need to contact Razor Servers Support Department.
