Saving energy in the data center takes planning and requires you to work with Facilities. Plan where to put your next server is a group decision not just one - Saving power means reducing air condition (running cooler servers, consolidations or servers/disks/data centers and more)

Feel free to contact me through our website to help discuss more.

Saving electricity is a great task in a server related aspect. Because if it consumes large amount of electricity, then the bills will be huge. Major investment is needed in saving electricity. People must be remember that energy saving aspects must also be greener. Maintenance is needed after its implementation.

Some of the posts on this thread are truly awful.
Google's datacenters use renewable energy to the greatest extent possible, the 'plex has solar power as well as a various array of other stuff.
Their aim is to use 100% renewable energy by a certain date, I think.

Computers are realy energy efficient already. The majority of the power used is consumed by the CRT if yyour still not using LCD or better tech. As for the servers themselves, they use some electricity but in my opinion its a great deal for both sides, the power company and the company with the servers.

It is great how google is using neweable energy and taking full advantage of what they get. I think that being able to use other energy sources are simply the best idea.

Default Cooling..

Our latest Project is using geothermal loops to cool 200W/sqft data centers..
This reduces the cost of cooling by a large percentage.
