Job Description:

Manager (Practice Leader), Middleware Support Services
Position Overview:

The Manager, is a pivotal leadership role within our Middleware team located in Toronto, On. In this role you will be responsible for active and visible leadership of a motivated team of IBM Websphere Middleware professionals. Key to this role is strong partnership and engagement with our Operations and Support, and our Release Management teams to support the delivery of world class services for our customers.


Support and lead a team of IBM Middleware professionals responsible for maintaining large, complex environments built on IBM Websphere/Portal, IBM Message Broker/MQ, and a full suite of Tivoli products including Directory Server, ITCAM, and Tivoli Monitoring
Foster client-supplier relationships with key clients using our MW services.
Provide a management interface to clients when planning MW projects involving architectural, design and integration activities.
Provide the vision and overall development plan for the MW function within the MITS (Managed IT Services) portfolio.
Validate the existing MW process framework and adjust as necessary to meet the objectives of middleware management, product direction, and client engagements.
Seek and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement programs to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the MW organization.
Ensure each team member understands their role and responsibilities and set personal performance objectives that compliment overall department goals.
Actively support team members in establishing goals and personal development plans to facilitate individual career growth.
Develop efficient project plans and coordinate testing schedules for multiple team members, across multiple projects against aggressive timelines.
Coordinate middleware activities across cross functional teams and clients to meet overall software availability and performance goals.
Effectively forecast resource needs while ensuring that project commitments and financial constraints are met.
Liaise with key individuals in other departments to ensure the MW process is integrated throughout the IT delivery services lifecycle.


Required Knowledge:

Knowledge of IBM SOA architecture, software and integration.
Working knowledge of IBM Websphere, Message Broker/MQ, and Tivoli Access Manager.
Required Skills & Abilities:

A passion for supporting and coaching a team of IT professionals.
Ability to manage multiple demands and priorities simultaneously.
Proven relationship-building skills.
Strong business knowledge and experience in effectively managing financials and team resource plans.
Required Professional Designation/Certification:

Post secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or relevant work experience.
Required Experience:

Minimum of 10 years experience in information technology, with progressive leadership experience in middleware development, support, integration and management.
Experience in successfully leading / managing large complex projects and teams.
