A bonus to the CLI syntax is that you can do things like save your config or show config while in config mode (...as an example). It saves you a couple commands when you have to do some show's and then make changes.
The first two brands that come to mind, are Cisco and Juniper. Foundry has become increasingly popular the last 5 years or so. High bandwidth networks also use Force10.
But, it mainly depends on what you want to do with it. Cisco has had a long history in corporate environments, so that makes it 'well known', I guess.
Since cisco has been around the longest and that is the only area in which they have product then I think they can concentrate on making the very best product with full stability as possible. I am sure there are other brands out there but whether or not they can compare is the question.
