Default Systems Administrator (121 King St W, Toronto)

ROLE MANDATE:

We are a leading financial services company located in the downtown core, we are currently recruiting for a 3mth temporary contract. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a strong attention to detail and previous experience with Systems Administration/Support Desk. This position is ideal for a strong IT student, or someone looking to build on their current career experiences. This is not an entry level position.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

•Ensure systems (Desktops, LAN, and Telephone) are operational including, but not limited to, maintenance, availability and security and provide users with system status in terms of down times, configuration and performance
•Assist IT staff to perform system installation, maintenance, configuration and implementation of new hardware and software (including roll out of new products) and conducting regular preventative maintenance
•Assist Manager, IT Operations in maintaining a stable, highly reliable operating environment for our clients
•Develop, conduct and/or ensure the provision of user orientation and training, including monitoring and evaluating external service providers
•Develop and disseminate user documentation and guides for use by IT staff.
•Analyze problems, trends, occurrences, disruptions, to develop preventive actions
•Learn and understand user businesses and environments in order to determine how best to serve them effectively and efficiently and formulate recommendations for manager’s approval
•Configure and deploy new server systems for use in our main datacenter and DR facility.
•Rack and remove systems from standard datacenter racks as required. (Must be able to lift systems into place with another individual)
•Perform related duties, as required or assigned, in support of the IT unit
•Occasionally assist help desk staff with day to day trouble tickets and equipment rollouts.

SKILLS REQUIRED

•3-5 Years Experience in a *nix or blended OS environment
•Working knowledge of rapid deployment technologies (Jumpstart, Kickstart, ect)
•Solid understanding of LAMP/SAMP stack, and it integration with AD/OpenLDAP
•Job automation (scripting) in a standard Unix shell
•Working (as a Sysadmin) knowledge of Oracle and MySQL and their replication technologies
•Solid knowledge of standard networking technologies (DNS, DHCP, ect)
•RADIUS, LDAP, NIS Auth.
•Previous knowledge of Windows in standard business context is an asset
•Good knowledge of IT organization set-ups, operations (e.g., standards, protocols, methods & processes, configurations)
•Analytical, judgement & problem solving skills to identify causes of systems malfunctions and perform remedial action
•Very good oral, written consultation skills; tact & diplomacy
•Commitment to exemplary customer service

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

•Degree or Diploma in Computer Science and /or Information Technology or equivalent combination of education would be an asset
