Default VM Sprawl

How do you manage your virtual infrastructure to prevent VM sprawl? Not only does VM sprawl eat up resources, but it can be a security issue as well. Do you use VM management tools to track usage?

Egenera has a cloud product that interfaces with vmware, which can put timers on virtual servers. As the timer nears the end it will give a warning to the user and admins, or will delete the vm's or do both in intervals. It also tracks usage in reporting....
