Default Network Monitoring In data center

Hellow I am thankful to google who brought me here in this forum. Currently I am working on a BS- level project related to Data Ceneter i-e DSCM (Data center service management!)
It will be providing a web interface and showing all the graphical values of the dc components.
Can anyone give some comments related to Network Monioring part of my project,

Like how do you and what parameters are measures realted to servers. (Assume that we have 1 server)
I know there are types of servers like Web,Applicatoins, DB, Mail servers. But plz let me know some good article on that I will be glad to have answer!

You should be using a system like Nagios for monitoring of services, cpu load etc.
