Default Tips when building data center

I know there is a lot to take into consideration when building a data center. I was just wondering if anyone had any "must have" tips that they feel should absolutely be used when building a new facility.

Selecting the right location is important. You want an area where the taxes are affordable while still being able to access many qualified individuals. Select a location where there are not a lot of natural disasters (for instance tornadoes, hurricanes, etc).

Along those lines, you should consider the climate of the area. If you select the right location, you can save a lot of money through "free cooling" with air-side or water-side economization.

I'd consider some water leak detection equipment, it's better to be safe than sorry. I got mine from here:

I think the efficiency of a data center greatly relies upon on the facilities and utilities where the data center is bulit along with its cooling system.

RAISED FLOORS WITH COOLING SYSTEMS!

This is an absolute must have. Our floors are 4 inches from the ground with cooling systems in place under the servers. We never have any heat problems.

Thanks for all the great tips, everyone! I'm still trying to find a good place for my future data center. I'm wondering, though: would it be better to be the only data center in a given area, or would it be better to be part of a cluster of data centers?

Location of datacenter can be determined by your business locations and type of applications in datacenter. Please provide your business location and I can suggest you some excellent choices.
