VMware vCloud Air Disaster Recovery Services provide cross-cloud recovery processes, and receives a couple of new additional enhancements to improve its cloud-based DR orchestration.

Disaster Recovery OnDemand presents VMware customers a purchasing option that lets them pay a flat fee for compute power used in the event of a disaster. The cost will still include an initial flat fee for each protected VM and the storage it uses.

Site Recovery Manager Air is a comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery management tool used to design, test, run and orchestrate DR plans for VM-hosted applications and data centers residing in vCloud Air.

VMware vCloud Air Object Storage, powered and available on Google Cloud Storage and EMC's ViPR, is integrated into VMware's vCloud Air OnDemand service, and provides several cost-effective storage services for unstructured data.

VMware vCloud Air SQL is a pay-as-you-go hybrid cloud-based database service that is designed to simplify access to cloud-hosted relational databases, while also extending on-prem databases to the cloud. The new service will initially support Microsoft SQL Server, however, VMware said it would be adding other database products to support in the future.

vCloud Air is a public cloud platform built on vSphere from VMware. vCloud Air has three infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) subscription service types: dedicated cloud, virtual private cloud, and disaster recovery.
