VPS hosting and Cloud Computing are very close to the same. The main difference is VPS hosting provides you with a virtual server sitting on one physical server while Cloud Computing will provide you with that virtual instance on a cluster of servers that are sharing resources. Neither one is technically more powerful than the other, but theoretically Cloud can offer you limitless resources if you have lots of cash to burn.

Because Cloud is run over a cluster of servers, it should be more reliable than the most basic form of VPS. If your host server fails in a VPS environment than your VPS will go down with it. However quality VPS providers also offer high availability options that are capable of automatically moving your instance to a new host without interruption..

VPS is not your regular web hosting, and it is a part of the IaaS category!

Cloud hosting and Vps have some stark differences while both are used in the same way.

Cloud hosting originates form cloud servers wherein your websites are hosted on a cloud platform. And you might be aware of the features of the cloud platform.
You get unlimited resources on the cloud so you never run out of them. Whereas in a vps your resources have a limit.

Cost-wise you pay for what you subscribe for in a VPS, whereas most cloud hosting providers offer pay per use billing option, so you only pay for the amount of resources you use.

And most importantly Cloud Hosting has zero failure owing to the multiple server cluster and load balanced infrastructure.

In a Cloud Hosting environment, you are taking “many” dedicated servers and interconnecting them, and then running a control panel such as cPanel to manage all the operations and accounts on these servers.
Think of a “cloud” as a giant server with unlimited capacity. In a shared hosting environment when all your small accounts have outgrown that 1 dedicated server, you have to take the server down and upgrade it, and in some cases move some accounts to another dedicated server, in a cloud environment, you can simply do what we call a “live swap”, that means while the “cloud” or server are all online and serving websites, you simply add one more server to the complete cluster.

There are only small differences. VPS hosting while it can be served via a cluster is commonly found on a single "beefed up" server. While cloud computing is generally found run on a cluster of servers that allow for redundancy and fail over. Additionally, you will commonly find that cloud computing is using ISCSI or other form of Network Storage for its storage space, while most of the VPS hosts I see are using local storage.
