Default Preventative Maintenance

So, what types of preventative maintenance does everyone do on a regular basis on your data center, and how often do you do it? We scan breaker panels about once a month. At the same time, we make sure air filters are clean.

We clean the floor surface and vacuum the subfloor. Also, we test the fire control system and clean the smoke detectors. All annually.

I am assuming you left off the PMs for your equipment. You should get your cooling and emergency power equipment checked every quarter.

All generators have preventive maintenance tasks that must be completed quarterly, annually, and every 2-3 years. I do a weekly startup test and a monthly power failure test.

Our Lieberts need filters changed every quarter as well as a check for malfunctioning equipment. Our Lieberts are over 20 years old so they require a lot of TLC.

As for what I do myself, I sweep once a week and when needed. Check every day on the Lieberts, Large PDUs, UPSs, and our ATS switch. Our NOC staff also check temps and Liebert status every 2 hours.

With all of these very hands on procedures we have discovered many potential problems before they became serious. They also help you know exactly what effects happen when a system has a partial breakdown. The power failure test was pretty scary the first time I did it.

Hope this helps,

you forget the battery room. battery rooms have to be check regularly to check for overproduction of hydrogen gas. it can lead to severe damage. the ventilation also has to be checked. air purifier replacement also is advisable.
