Default looking for help advise on basic SAN FC setup

I am planning to get some FC equipment to construct small lab to get hands on some of the basic fc concepts. I currently have two old entry levels hp servers at home. I am thinking to buy FC adapter, one FC switch /preferably older Cisco Mds model/ and one diskarray to get minimum working FC setup and potentially expand a bit later on. the question I have no idea the choice of adapter and disk array will guaranteed to work with the MDS model. with the older MDS model, I am concerned about what and how i can obtain the set of interoperatble devices or can I use any just FC compatible devices? I am looking to get hands-on on topics i.e. basic working FC target and server using FC switch, VSAN, zoning, and if possible NPV and NPIV.
