Default Citywide Wireless IP Network

Citywide Wireless IP Network Launched in New York

Quote:
"It's the first network of its scope certainly anywhere in the country in terms of the amount of area we're covering," said Nick Sbordone, spokesman for the city's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT), referring to New York City's 322 square miles. "The network is solely dedicated to city use, specifically not just for public safety, but for public service as well. It really is historic in that sense."
Information Society takes another step. I hope more cities will implement this. I wouldn't want my downloads interfering with crime control or public safety. Now if only they could dedicate a network solely for mmorpg's.

I am sure introducing this type of package will ensure us being safe from public threats. It will be a great deal to have wireless IP network for the whole world.

Default wireless networking!!!

wireless networks are very easy to install and offer something other network solutions do not offer - portability. Like a cordless phone, Laptops on a wireless network are free to roam the house. My laptop spends part of its life in the office, part in the living room, and sometimes a bit of time in the bedroom for some late night reading (or surfing!) New tablet computers arriving on the market take advantage of wireless networks to create portable web surfing devices even more convenient than a laptop. One day, home networks may all be wireless

I know some trials have been run here in the UK about installing city wide wireless networks although I don't think they kept much stream due to funding issues.

Hopefully the example set in NYC can be used as a baseline for other areas to create similar rollouts - although I can just see you being DoS'd from a number of lampposts in the street!

I agree with one of our friends. It will be very safe, if it happens. When coming to world wide network, it will take some time. Thanks for sharing with us. Keep smiling.
