Default NAS vs SAN

why is NAS storage preferred over SAN storage for virtualization storage purposes?
Can anyone also explain the network configurations for a NAS storage?

From my experience I don't think anyone would prefer NAS stroage over SAN. Most of the companies run virtualization on SAN.

SAN deals in blocks of data, a NAS operates at the file level and is accessible to anyone with access rights, so it needs also to manage user privileges,
