Default Plastic/Metal Rack for Blade Servers?

We are currently running 10 blade servers from IBM. They come in a metal rack but are held in with plastic binders and plastic plugs. The servers seem to run a bit hot at certain times during the day.

Is there any chance of these plugs or plastic binders melting and attaching to the actual servers? Sorry if this seems inexperienced, but I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere.

It is unlikely the material will melt, but why don't you get a couple of probe thermometers and see just how hot things are getting. Also, IBM blade servers have extensive temperature monitoring abilities. If your input air supply is staying within their operating parameters -- and you'd probably be getting alarms or warnings if you weren't -- you're fine.

Hi Ken.. Can you recommend any probe thermometers? Or send me a link to one at a store online? I came across this page and actually have the same servers.. Looking for a way to monitor temps better.

Can't really recommend any particular make and model -- just search for Probe Thermometer in Amazon. You don't need anything fancy. A simple stick thermometer will do for spot readings. This one is popular with HVAC techs: http://www.amazon.com/RT600C-Super-f...dp/B002GE2XF8/. One with a flexible probe is useful for measuring temps inside racks or equipment. This one has min/max recording capability: http://www.amazon.com/General-Digita...dp/B001TOJGBK/. For data logging, I like the HOBO series from Onset: http://www.onsetcomp.com/products/da...rs/temperature.

Hope that helps.
