UPS systems should be carefully inspected in every year of their life but replacement is most likely not needed until around year 7-10. If you replace it earlier there is an aftermarket that specializes in selling refurbished system, and you might be able to work a trade in-value to help offset the initial capital expenditure. Its a good way to get a kick back and have someone else take the UPS system off your hands. Always maintain diligence with your preventative maintenance and keep good records.

Year 7 is when you need to start budgeting for a replacement, but as long as you are diligent with your preventative maintenance and keep good records, the UPS will last for another 3-5 years before strong consideration of replacement is needed.

UPS's do differ in technology. The older technology systems, you know who you are, those should be replaced in about years 7-10. The newer technology, you know who you are, those can be replaced in year 15.

It benefits you in the long run to be diligent and purchase UPS systems with the latest technologies. They help support your system with a true on-line double conversion technology to provide the highest level of protected power to your loads, maintain the efficiency, extend battery life, have a lower BTU output so your cooling bill stays lower and allows 3rd party preventative maintenance so you can manage who and how much you pay. When you look at the Total Cost of Ownership on a UPS equipment purchase, you will see a drastic difference. You need to be careful when buying UPS systems, there are hidden costs that are not known to you on the front end until it's too late and the system is installed.
