From the Cisco site

Recertification Renewal Timeframes

• Entry-level, Associate-level, and Professional-level certifications are valid for three years and must be recertified before the certfication expiration date.

• All CCIE certifications are valid for two years and must be recertified by the deadline to remain on active status.

• Spec ialist certifications are valid for two years and can be renewed by retaking all exams required for the certification. Cisco Sales Expert (CSE) designations are valid for two years and must be recertified regardless of other certifications you have achieved, are currently pursuing or are in the process of recertifying.

It's also worth keeping an eye on exam changes when you recertify, I remember recertifying my ccda, went into the test center and they were introducing a new exam which was nothing like what I had studied for thankfully I still passed, allthough that was many moons ago.
