VOIP has some disadvantages compared to the regular telephone
VOIP has many disadvantages.
It is heavily dependent on the internet and VOIP software applications.
Viruses are a threat to all software, more to those applications running online. So VOIP is under the threat of viruses.
Also, VOIP has disadvantages with providing the level of quality of service that customers are accustomed to with regular telephone technology. VOIP requires a large amount of data to be compressed and transmitted, then uncompressed and delivered, all in a relatively small amount of time. Problems occur in VOIP conversations when this process takes too long and the callers experience echo or over-talk.
