If you are using a mini dvd then the file should have been created. I am agree with you that the file is there somewhere and maybe it is in a raw format. Because it wasnt shut down properly, the data is like scattered. I dont know what camera you are using. Each brand has it's unique way to process internal buffer. It will be really difficult to find the suitable recovery software for your camera's data. You can talk to the camera company, they might give you some advice about recovery.
