It is a great idea and a must in many types of businesses. With lower cost of bandwidth etc, its becoming more and more affordable to use aremote backup solution.

Servers...

Most of our stuff runs on Sun servers. Mostly x64 servers for windows and unix/linux. THey are just very fast and very reliable. There are also some IBM Blades and Appro Twin Dual Proc. 1U Servers.

Space needed for solar panels is the big issue with them. If your DC doesnt sit on 100s of acres of land, its not viable. Its the same thing with geothermal cooling.

Our latest Project is using geothermal loops to cool 200W/sqft data centers..
This reduces the cost of cooling by a large percentage.
