Post Bandwidth and server monitoring

Does anyone know of programs to monitor bandwidth and server (software problem or hardware failure) and notify you by email or sms looking to offer these to my customers.

ideal server specificaton for colocation

Hi,

Is there an optimum server size/spec for colo?

What I mean by that is obviously you pay for space but you also pay for power and from the numbers I am seeing power can be pretty expensive.....
