What to do if servers overheat?

What should be done if the servers on a particular rack overheat? Should the number of servers be reduced so as to provide proper cooling to them?

If there is room, spreading out the heat load is probably the least expensive way to prevent or alleviate hot spots. Other ways are additional or higher-volume floor tiles, improved hot/cold air segregation and auxiliary cooling.
