Managing power needs.

My company is about to invest in its own off-site datacenter. By planning green from the start, what can we do to manage our power needs?

As you probably have seen, there is a ton of information on the web about data center energy efficiency. Here is a recent slide set from the DOE with lots of useful information and links to more: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/industry...esentation.pdf

Hope that helps.

And speaking of managing power needs, be sure to order your power equipments early. Apparently, orders on generators have a lead time reaching from 1 to 2 years.

If I was building a DC. I would plan build underground. Check out this article: http://www.networkworld.com/news/200...n.html?hpg1=bn

Undergaround DC's do have its pros: Lesser sound, they get dampened easily. Better cooling as ground tend to be cooler provided there is sufficient flow of air in DC.
