I'm not really surprised, there has been a number of mergers in the telecom industry, SBC buying AT&T, Sprint and Nextel. Its a way of cutting costs. All these mergers are happing in part to reduce the risk of regulators rejecting it if all of them are pushed through at the same time.

It should be interesting to see how the internet changes with these huge mega mergers. Remember a lot of traffic flows over the att and mci backbone.

No one knows if SBC/ATT will continue to use ATT's peering policy or switch to SBC's peering policy. It should be pretty interesting as ATT has always had problems with saturated peering points and really a lack of peering overall.

Now I have to say that the MCI crew is probably pretty tired of changing all their router hostnames by now heh :D
