SATA Disk
I'm thinking of using slower disk, SATA for some of our file activites I don't think it will degrade user performance and should save my company a few $$$ - Do you use SATA at all in your setup?

Large capacity Serial ATA (SATA) drives have recently become widely available for the PC environment at a reasonable price. In addition to being faster, the SATA connectors seem more reliable, have a more reasonable length restriction (1m) and allow better airflow. It is really good.

Thats right. We have been using them in my organization too. All new external drives we buy for our users are Sata drives. So far no complains from users. |
I personally use external Sata drives and they're simply great.
Use large capacity ones to back up my sites, and although they haven't been called into action, they work great! |
Deploying hundreds of servers you get great real world experiences. Overall we have seen a higher percentage of SATA drives compared to SAS. For a few more dolllars I would go with SAS over SATA any day.
