Power calculation for server racks
Hi Folks,
Need some light on power calculation in Data Centre. Server rack has 2 power source A & B. 3 KW power is catered to this rack. And assuming readings at Rack show 3 KW for both powerstrips. Does is mean this rack can use 3 kw from A source and 3 KW from B source? If so, then this rack is using 6 KW? If i conclude rack is drawing only 3KW although it has source A & B. Then, incoming power at DB or UPS would show 3 KW for each UPS. ie. UPS A = 3 KW UPS B = 3 KW Both UPS = 6 KW Please enlighten. Thanks. |
The standard rules are 50% and 80%.
50% if you want absolute redundancy. 80% is the maximum allowed load according to USA electrical code standards. I'm not sure what the codes are for other countries. But never should it be 100%. If you have 6kW total to a cabinet 2.4 kW per power strip is what you should be aiming for in actual usage. |
